There’s no shortage of good reasons to masturbate. It’s healthy for you. It feels awesome. (Duh.) And it’s a great way to get to know your body and what you like. Still is it possible to ever have too much of a good thing? Can you ever masturbate too much?
Sure, we know ridiculous myths about masturbation causing blindness or weird hair growth are just B.S. But is it possible to get addicted to self-love? Can it have a detrimental impact on your sexual experience with others? Can using a vibrator cause damage or make it more difficult to experience pleasure without one?
Kasandra Brabaw explored these questions and more in a story for Refinery29 and found that while unlikely the worries aren’t completely unfounded:
“Masturbating the same way every time, and doing it often, can train your brain to orgasm only when your body is stimulated in that one way.”
The good news? This situation would be extremely rare, according to the experts. And you can easily avoid this issue by simply mixing up your masturbation routine with new toys, touch or positions. (Whew.)
